Engineering at Doodle today includes three product development teams and an additional growth team.<\/p>\n<p>Before adopting Nave, Doodle relied on traditional estimation methods like story points and T-shirt sizes. However, these methods often led to inaccuracies and stress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEstimates are always wrong,\u201d Jens states. \u201cTeams would commit to a due date and then end up working overtime to meet it. This was something we needed to change to improve work-life balance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The need for a new approach became apparent. \u201cUsing traditional estimates caused a lot of stress at the end of projects,\u201d Tim adds. \u201cWe wanted to create a more relaxed work environment and focus on quality.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>The Transition to Probabilistic Forecasting<\/h2>\n<p>Doodle\u2019s journey from story point estimates to no estimates began in 2020 when Tim joined the company. \u201cWe introduced Nave as a feedback tool at the end of 2020,\u201d Tim recalls.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/getnave.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/doodle-team-dashboard-by-nave-image.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6255\" src=\"https:\/\/getnave.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/doodle-team-dashboard-by-nave-image.png\" alt=\"Doodle Team Dashboard by Nave | Image\" width=\"1418\" height=\"907\" srcset=\"https:\/\/getnave.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/doodle-team-dashboard-by-nave-image.png 1418w, https:\/\/getnave.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/doodle-team-dashboard-by-nave-image-768x491.png 768w, https:\/\/getnave.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/doodle-team-dashboard-by-nave-image-585x374.png 585w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1418px) 100vw, 1418px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>The teams at Doodle use Nave\u2019s analytics suite to track their performance. They observe nearly a 2x improvement in cycle time compared to the same period last year. <a href=\"https:\/\/getnave.com\/kanban-dashboards\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">See a dashboard with your own data<\/a> \u2192<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Nave platform allowed their teams to gain insights from data and foster a culture of continuous improvement. This hands-on approach helped teams understand and apply the probabilistic forecasting method effectively.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, some teams experimented with T-shirt size estimates, believing it would help them better manage their workload. However, Tim explains, \u201cOur delivery managers and teams tried using T-shirt sizes for a while, but it turned out to be a waste of everyone&#8217;s time. The cycle times were often longer than expected, leading to more confusion and delays. The shift allowed teams to focus on delivering high-quality work without the pressure of arbitrary deadlines.<\/p>\n<p>At first, teams were skeptical of the new forecasting method. \u201cDevelopers didn\u2019t believe the forecasts initially,\u201d Tim shares. \u201cThey thought they could complete tasks faster than what the data suggested. But after a few iterations, they realized the forecasts were far more reliable than their own predictions. In a couple of experiments comparing the team\u2019s estimations with the probabilistic forecasts generated by the platform, Nave gave astonishingly precise results.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Doodle didn\u2019t stop there. The company continues to refine its processes, driven by data insights from Nave. \u201cWe regularly review our processes and look for areas of improvement,\u201d Tim explains. This commitment ensures Doodle remains agile and responsive to changing needs.<\/p>\n<p>Nave\u2019s success at Doodle extended beyond engineering. \u201cOur people operations team uses Nave to track their processes and improve efficiency,\u201d Jens shares.
